Fourteen (Yes, 14) Websites You Should Check Out

We surfed the web and came up with a random number of sites that will get you addicted and procrastinating more important work in no time.

Simply put, the internet is an amazing place. There are millions upon millions of websites out there just waiting to be discovered. The only hard part is navigating your way through them in hopes of finding something really interesting, maybe just what you were looking for or maybe just what you needed even if you didn’t know it. Sure, you could always use a search engine  to find it, but I’d like to make the task even easier for you. Check out the list I’ve compiled of fun, funny, useful, and definitely cool websites for you to explore at your leisure. And if that’s not easy enough for you, I’ve even sorted them into three categories: “I Have Time to Kill,” “I Want to Learn Something,” and “I Like to Share.”

I Have Time to Kill
You can visit and enjoy these websites when you, well, have time to kill. They are simply fun websites that exist for your entertainment pleasure and are easy to browse:

The End of the Internet : This website takes you to the end of the internet. Have you been there?

Shakespearean Insults : Have you ever been so angry at someone, but just didn’t know what to say to them? This website will help you insult that person just like Shakespeare would. Check it out, you saucy fat-kidneyed death-token!

Internet Archive: This is a very cool site that lets you choose a website and a date in the past and then shows you what that website looked like on that date. They also archive images, live music, audio, and texts. Check out what your favorite website looked like in 1996.

Awkward Family Photos: I’ve got some awkward family photos, and I’m sure you do, too. This website is the place for people to share photos of those unnecessary haircuts from the ‘80s. Look, enjoy, share your own awkward moments for the world to see.

F My Life: This is the site where you can vent about something that ruined your day. You can submit your own FML for others to read, enjoy, and decide if your life really is “F’ed” or if you deserved it. Here’s an example of what you might find on the site (this actually happened to me): Today I took my car to get an oil change. The mechanic asked me if I had any coupons. I told him I didn’t, so I had to pay full price. The next day I got a coupon for an oil change in the mail. FML.

My Life is Average: Was today a pretty normal day where nothing exciting happened? This website gives you the opportunity to tell people about your average day or moment. You’ll really appreciate this website if you like F My Life.

I Want to Learn Something
These websites will teach you a thing…possibly two:

Roadside America: This site is the “guide to offbeat tourist attractions.” Because of it, I know about Holy Land, USA and the Mushroom House. You can search for attractions by city or state. Store places you want to see in “My Sights,” and plan a vacation to see some interesting sites or even stay home and see things you didn’t know were already so close. You can also comment on an attraction or add tips for a new one.

Word Spy: The Word Lover's Guide to New Words: Word Spy will really teach you something! There are hundreds and hundreds of words and phrases for you to learn. Now I know that the guy I always see “texting” in the car is just intexticated.

Find Your Spot: The good people at Find Your Spot will find the best place for you to live based on your answers to their quiz. It will give you a list of locations you may enjoy, and you can read the report on each city to make your decision. Apparently, based on my interests, I would really enjoy Greenville, South Carolina.

How to Clean Anything: This is quite possibly the most useful site ever. It will even tell you how to clean butter off your carpet.

A Drive: This site won’t necessarily teach you anything, but it sure is useful. A Drive provides you with 50GB of free online storage. You can upload files and access them from anywhere. If you need more space, you can get it, but then you have to pay.

I Like to Share
These websites are for people who love to contribute to the World Wide Web. Each of these sites gives you the opportunity to share your thoughts or items with other people:

Half Bakery: Share your inventions or ideas for products with others on Half Bakery. Once you post, commenters will then let you know if the idea is already “baked.” People can also vote for or against your ideas. Did you know a product like the Tortilla Cage already exists?

The Found Bin: Did you lose your boot? How about your notebook? Did you find someone’s shovel? Then go to The Found Bin. Through this website you can find the things you have lost and let others know about stuff you have found. It’s an online lost and found!

Paperback Swap: If you love to read, you should check out Paperback Swap. Chances are you have tons of paperbacks that you’ve read and re-read sitting on a bookshelf somewhere. Let someone else enjoy them, and get a new book to read in return! Book worms rejoice!

The next three websites are super entertaining, so I included them in “I Have Time to Kill,” but they are also great for people who love to tell their stories for all to read. I gave their full descriptions above, but if you love to share stories and photos with people online, check these out again:

I hope there is at least one website here that you’ll enjoy and add to your own list of regularly visited bookmarks. Feel free to share your own favorite, cool, and funny sites with us at comments@vigilantmonkey.com.

This is the second article that has had Anjali Petersen surfing the web for an inordinate amount of time. If only VM needed something written up on waterparks...

Another time consuming fun website:
www.Yearbookyourself.com
Upload a picture or take one with your webcam and the website puts it in a yearbook photo from the past. See what your yearbook photo would have been in 1960.
